Israeli newspapers reported on a petition to the nation's High Court to have Prime Minister Olmert and the head of the country's security services arrested for torture. Despite a 1999 court ruling banning torture of prisoners, petitioners say the practice still exists.
Haaretz reported on a Hebrew University student's detainment. The Chairman of the University's Arab Student Body refused to shake Israeli President Peres' hand. The student was detained for three hours, and his student ID card confiscated until a disciplinary committee could convene to review his conduct.
